Gesellmann G
Variety: 95 % Blaufränkisch, 5 % St. Laurent
Origin and soil: Subsoil: heavy loamy soil with a high prportion of clay. Thanks to the organic farming methods we employ in our vineyards, we give the vines the proper conditions and natural equilibrium. The layer occupied by the grapes is very close to the soil, to make the most of the warmth of the soil. This results in a high canopy of foliage that ensures assimilation of the leaves and perfect maturity of the grapes.
Age of the vines: 34 - 84 years
Harvest by hand
Vinification: Traditional must fermentation with submersion of the floating cap and 20 days of maceration on the must. Acid is broken down organically (malolactic fermentation) in small oak casks. The wine is decanted into new vessels serveral times, resulting in natural clarification. Albumin fining.
Aging: 40 months in small oaken casks; 3 months in large casks
Alcohol content: 14.5% vol.
Residual sugar:: 1.2 g/l
Acid: 6.5 g/l
Characteristics: Dark ruby-garnet, opaque colour with light ochre edges. Nose full of inviting dark berry confit, fine balsamic-ethereal components, multi-faceted, liquorice and blackberry come through. Elegant on the palate, fine touch of dark berries and orange, structured acid full of finesse, perfect tannins, combines power and finesse in a unique manner, lingers on the palate for a long time, seamless texture, aftertaste of sweet, fruity berries. Great potential, a wine that will develope into a landmark in Austria red wine culture.
Drinking temperature: 17° - 19° Celsius
